Meet the Artist ~ MyArtIsTheWeapon

Hello, my name is Ingrid and I am an artist centered in Virginia. I am currently 16, and have been doing lps customs for about four years. I started creating customs because of multiple other artists I discovered on YouTube and Instagram. I do all sorts of customs; my favorite is recreating anime characters and my least favorite is probably realism. I've tried lots of different bases, but I always come back to LPS. The products I absolutely use on every custom is Acetone (to take the paint off) and DuraClear Glossy topcoat. My necessity for sculpting is Kneadatite, or "Green Stuff."

My favorite custom:

This is my interpretation of Bakugou Katsuki in his hero outfit from the anime Boku No Hero Academia!

Least favorite:

A rather messy Pikachu.

First custom:

Oven baked clay and paints not meant for plastic does not usually equal a good custom.

My most recent custom:

This was a commission I made for a close friend of mine! (This is her wonderful design.)

The worst injury I've sustained at the hands of lps customs occurred last week, when I accidentally sprayed myself in both eyes with the chemical Acetone. It was extremely painful, but thankfully didn't harm me permanently. I am inspired by the wonderful friends I have made over the years, whether through customs, drawing, or cosplay.

I am working on several huge projects as of right now, but the progress is slow thanks to school and sports. For example, I am making Lock, Shock, and Barrel from Nightmare Before Christmas!

I watch a lot of makeup tutorials in order to entertain myself.

I enjoy all types of art, but my current favorite is black-and-white photography!

I do take commissions, and have made about twenty in the past year.

I generally keep my work on Instagram (@myartistheweapon), but I also have an Etsy (@myartistheweaponshop)!

My favorite trick is to sculpt in layers instead of trying to sculpt everything all at once. This results in squished details!

My advice for those that are beginners or still in a less-experienced range: DO NOT GIVE UP!! I'm still working to make customs that I am proud of, but my improvement is easy to track and I am very proud of how far I've come.

Best of luck,

Ingrid️
