Meet the Artist ~ JayJayLPS

What is your name?

My name is Joanne :)

Where are you from?

I am from Romania.

Age?

I am 20 years old, soon to be 21 :D

How long have you been customizing?

I believe around 3-4 years.

What got you started?

At first I wanted to "beautify" some of my LPS and actually use them in a series. But I stopped customizing genuine LPS because they are slowly disappearing.

What types of customs do you do?

I usually come up with my own original designs. I guess people call them OC's but I only use this term for drawings or imaginary characters on a paper, ha ha. Also, I do make customs after game characters. It's really fun actually!

What sorts of mediums do you use?

I paint them, I sculpt them, I once did a head swap but they are not my favorite xD. Sometimes I add feathers or other tiny object to my customs. They look more interesting like this.

Are there any products you just can’t live without?

My maimeri acrylics! They are literally the best! I tried a couple of other brands of acrylics but they don't satisfy my needs, haha ~

What is your most favorite custom that you have made?

My most favorite custom might be this blue grate dane. I really like the way it turned out. Fun fact about him: this guy supposed to be gray but I kind of improvised while I was painting him xD

What is your least favorite custom that you have made?

I can't even contemplate how much I hate this custom. Good thing I don't have it anymore. I sold it for a very cheap price. It is a custom based on a character from the game Undertale.

A lot of beginners get so frustrated when their customs don't come out the way they want them to, and often compare themselves to their favorite artists and give up. Can you show us your very first custom?

Well, the thing is that my first ever custom that I made was brought to life when I didn't even know LPS customs existed! I was very small, I had a couple of LPS doubles and I decided to use some very cheap paints to make them look a little bit different. I'll just show the ones that I did in the same period of time.

What is your most recent custom?

This LPS customs was inspired by Raven from Teen Titans. I didn't had any meaning behind this LPS customs or I didn't really had a plan in mind about doing this custom. I just knew that I wanted to do a LPS shorthair custom.

What is the worst injury you’ve had from working on customs?

I never injured myself while doing LPS customs! I'm really sorry if someone actually did!

Who/What inspires you?

To be honest with you, I never really had an inspiration for either my customs, my drawings or my videos. I rarely have to look up for pictures that would help me with having ideas, but other than that, nothing comes in my mind.

What projects are you currently working on?

I am currently working on about 10 LPS customs. I finally got all the bases that I needed and I started sculpting on some of them. I can't wait to see them all done! I am trying to make some original characters based on Greek mythology for a LPS series that I started last year. This is mostly my biggest project and I'm very proud of it. Too bad not everyone knows about my series xD It's not that bad.

Do you have any odd habits while working on customs?

I don't think so.

What types of art do you enjoy?

Hmmm, I'll just refer to History of Art and I'll say that I love abstract art, Art Nouveau and Renaissance! I like seeing paintings but if I were to go to an exposition I would love to interact with the presented objects so I can remember them later.

Do you take commissions?

I used to. I might open them up again, but for now I can't because my post office lost 2 of my last packages and I was very disappointed. I still haven't got the packages back. Hope never dies though. I lost 3 LPS and I kinda miss them now.

Where can people see your work and contact you?

Here is a list of websites that I am present on!

Do you have any favorite tips or tricks?

I actually do! I discovered recently that if you make a combination between paint and enough water you'll get a nice paint texture that will allow you to use between 2-3 layers of paint. Of course I didn't mastered this technique yet. I still have troubles with it but the paint looks very smooth on the LPS!

Any advice for people just starting out?

Just practice as much as you can and never copy customs from others!!! Take as much time as you need to finish LPS customs. Think about the end result and you'll feel better while doing the LPS custom!
