Meet the Artist ~ Posewater
What is your name?
Sofia (Posewater)
Where are you from?
Los Angeles
Age?
18
How long have you been customizing?
For almost two years!
What got you started?
I started watching "Nicolle's Dreams" videos and thought it was the coolest thing ever.. to be able to customize a doll without it being a crazy expensive BJD
What types of customs do you do?
I do Monster High/Ever After High doll customs!
Are there any products you just can’t live without?
A big one is MSC.. I did my first customs without them and it was miserable!!
What is your most favorite custom that you have made?
I was so proud of this because I never thought I'd be able to make the clothes and the armor on my own!
What is your least favorite custom that you have made?
This was a really frustrating one for me... this faceup was done a few times and the end result wasn't really my style or what I had pictured in my head.
A lot of beginners get so frustrated when their customs don't come out the way they want them to, and often compare themselves to their favorite artists and give up. Can you show us your very first custom?
This isn't my very first... the first was a hot mess and I deleted it because I hated it so much. Now I wish I had the comparison! I'm glad I didn't give up though
What is your most recent custom?
My most recent custom is actually a secret... not for the swap but another project I'm working on that I'm pretty excited about
What is the worst injury you’ve had from working on customs?
Haha nothing severe! Just a crap ton of blisters from removing all the hair from dolls for a few hours.
Who/What inspires you?
Other artists inspire me more than anything. I'm constantly impressed by this community!
What projects are you currently working on?
Like I said, it's a secret!
Do you have any odd habits while working on customs?
I like to watch/listen to morbid documentaries sometimes.. It gives me something to learn about while my hands are busy
What types of art do you enjoy?
Dolls, Illustration and animation.. creepy, cute, gross, weird, all that!
Do you take commissions?
I used to but I can't now :( Which sucks because it's so fun to bring people's characters or ideas into a three dimensional gift!!!
Where can people see your work and contact you?
Instagram: @posewater
I have a twitter but I don't post enough art to hand it out
Any advice for people just starting out? Spending money on the very basics (a proper sealant, some good watercolor pencils) isn't a choice I regret making. I do regret spending money on new dolls to repaint instead of going for used lots from ebay or a thrift store. Also always keep an "experiment" doll or two around for modifications. You don't want to try something out for the first time on a project. And have fun!!! Making mistakes is part of it so don't worry :)
