Meet the Artist ~ Anna Sheva
What is your name (and usernames)? My name is Anna Sheva. Username: ShevaDolls
Where are you from? I am originally from Moscow, Russia but now I live permanently in San Francisco, USA.
Age- 29
How long have you been in the art industry? I started making reborn dolls two and a half years ago.
What got you started? I always loved dolls and one day while looking at dolls on eBay I discovered reborn dolls and couldn’t believe that a doll can look so lifelike and beautiful and I knew that minute that this was something I want to try doing!
What types of customs/art/crafts do you do? I create lifelike dolls by a process knows as reborning. “Reborning” is the art of taking vinyl doll parts and transforming them into life-like babies.
What sort of mediums do you use? I use Genesis heat set paints and mediums. Every doll is hand painted, permanently baking multiple layers of paint into the vinyl.
Are there any products you just can’t live without? My doll artist paintbrushes.
What is your most favorite piece of work you have made? My most favorite one is the toddler doll I recently created named Alexandra. Here is a link to her photos:
What is your least favorite piece of work you have made? I don’t think I have one.
What is the worst injury you’ve had from working on your art? I burned my hand while baking doll parts in the oven.
What is the funniest mistake you’ve made while working on your art? I really don’t know… if I make a mistake while painting a new doll then it is really not funny at all as I have to remove all the paint and start it all over.
Who/What inspires you? My beloved 4 month old daughter inspires me the most and beautiful pictures.
What projects are you currently working on? I am currently working on a very cute blonde toddler girl doll, that will be available for adoption very soon!
Do you have any odd habits while working on customs/art/crafts? Hmm.. I don’t think I have any… maybe just looking at a picture of a beautiful child on my laptop that inspires me at the moment while working on a new doll.
What types of art do you enjoy? I like pretty much everything. Of course I love dolls the most. I can spend hours looking at different dolls on the internet or in doll museums. I also absolutely love photography, drawing and sculpting.
Do you take commissions? No I usually don’t. But I will take some custom orders if it is something that I would be interested in.
Where can people see your work and contact you? My website: www.ShevaDolls.com Facebook fan page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Sheva-Art-Dolls/125022937555382
What advice do you have for someone just starting to get into customizing/art? Practice makes perfect!
